47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. (Luke 12)
We reformed folk know a lot. Let's face it, how many other denominations focus on the whole council of God? How many congregations desire to know God so much that they consider and discuss the small nuances that us reformed people consider, debate and seek to reconcile?
Lest we for a moment think that we are in any way better, we should first consider the grace shown us in the gospel. Then we should consider what is required of us to whom much is given.
As I meditate on my Savior this Lord's Day, my prayer is that we will be lights in a dark world who exult in Christ alone, never using what we have been given for self exaltation but in humility, esteeming others better than ourselves (Phil. 2:3).
I am constantly amazed and rebuked by the condescension of God for an unworthy wretch like me. When I compare myself to that light, I can only pray that I would be worthy to be a dim reflection.
