What are your thoughts on the new Kindle Fire HD? It comes in 7" and 8.9", with a 4G option on the latter (ranges from $199 to $599).

It appears to have a lot of improvements from the original Kindle Fire (HD screen, incredible speakers, front camera for Skype, and of course the $49/year 4G on that version).

I'm not sure if it would be better to look at a Fire HD 8.9" or an iPad 2 (older version), as I could get them for roughly the same price. I have the original Kindle Fire that I'll sell to help pay for it. Any thoughts?

I own an iPad 1st generation and I am delighted to have it. I have never been disappointed about anything it can do. Really. I also highly recommend Kensington iPad folio and keypad products. They stand behind what they sell.

Get a Nexus 7.

Any particular reason why? I just had someone recommend the Fire HD over the Nexus to me, but I've never seen a Nexus or used one, so I know nothing about it.

I have a 16 GB N7 and am very pleased with it. I think that the Google/Android ecosystem is vastly superior to the one that Amazon is trying to build. Also, being a bit of a geek, I like that the Nexus series features "pure" (and easily hackable) Android and not Amazon's heavily modified version.

Take a look at the comparison at http://cnettv.cnet.com/amazon-kindle-fire-hd-vs-google-nexus-7/9742-1_53-50131591.html?ttag=fbwl

I've heard and read several reviews about the Kindle Fire HD over the past month or so. It's supposed to be a real good deal for the money.
