New Year's Eve Plans?

Mine is what it has been for many years, now: stay home with some Martinelli's and watch an old movie or two - and leave the roads to the drunks!

There are a number from our church gathering for a bit of a party in someone's house.

I always find it hard to call it New Years eve or old year's night. In my mind it is always Hogmanay.

My plan is to swap out some calendars. I might smoke some chicken and ribs too.

I like to play games on New Year's Eve. But, I have to drive a taxi New Year's Day which involves getting up at 5 am. So, I guess I have to be ethical and get to bed early. Games I am currently into are 7 Wonders, Settlers of Cataan, and my son has a new one called Pandemic that I'd like to try.

When I was a young christian, the church I attended then would hold a prayer meeting
at midnight, and seek God's blessing upon the coming year. We would also remember
how He " crowned the year with His goodness." Sadly that era has passed and television
has supplanted that spiritual emphasis. Did not the Jews have a commemoration of the
event. As for my wife and I we will hold family worship as usual, but with the old and new
year to the fore in prayer, and retire early before the fireworks, hooters etc start. DV.

Back To The Future marathon night!

I was promised 5 tickets to Billy Joel but the person who promised appears to be backing out. What is disapointing is that our family made our plans for that night based on that promise.

New Year Eve (light) classical concert in town. This starts at 6pm so we can be back before the drunks take over the whole city centre. I think we have an invite to visit Ukie friends for their New Years Eve.

Our plans? Some good beer (though if someone were to gift me a bottle of Laphroaig I wouldn't complain), good music on the stereo, family games of Settlers of Catan and Killer Bunnies, and a pork tenderloin on the grill... bed by 11 (I'm well past the age at which I really care if I'm up at midnight or not)

I'll be up in Inverness for "the Bells". I might take the pipes with me and gie them a blast.

We give presents at New Year and have a big meal. Having been brought up to observe New Year instead of Christmas, I only go through some of the motions of Christmas.

My aunties' church in Inverness (Free Presbyterian CofS) has a service on New Year's morning, as do some of the others.
