Anybody catch any of the Olympics?

I haven't watched much so far - just a little here and there. I enjoyed the men's basketball game against Australia where the Americans (when I turned it on) were down by 10 or 15 points and came back to win it.

I caught a couple of the men's and women's (regular and beach) volleyball games. Pretty intense.

I've never watched Greco wrestling before. That was interesting.

I was surprised that Marian Jones was in so few events. It was good to see her at least compete in the long jump and run in the relay race.
 
I watched most of the swimming and gymnastics. Those are the funnest for me to watch. I've caught a little bit of the other sports too but they aren't as interesting for me.
 
I watched most of the swimming, gymnastics and running races. Lots of excitement in the swimming and track finals, some of those races are so close. It's amazing how fast some of those guys can run/swim!

I watched enough to wonder why they even bother with the spandex and don't just go back the way of the original Olympians and participate in the buff! It's not like spandex hides anything.........

my wife and I watched mostly the gymnastics...I watched some of the diving. I've enjoyed the Dream Team doing poorly!

What has been striking to me have been the laxed performance of many of these athletes...I mean, I couldn't do this stuff, but it just seems to me that many got lazy. Especially the night Hamm "won" the gold...the gymnists saw him mess up, and I think they just tried to coast. Anyway, that's just something I've never really noticed until these olympics.

I was thinking the same thing :lol: Especially with teh women's beach volleyball and some of those track runners.

Of course I thought it was even more interesting to see some of those muslim women running fully clothed on those hot days. Ouch!
 
I hope he doenst do baptisms that way cause if does I would rather be taken to the river and dunked with my eyes wide shut:)

And yet, now we have to wait for the men's basketball team to find their jerseys. I don't know about you, but I really wouldn't be that offended if they played shirts and skins.

They never show the events that I used to compete in. Discus and hammer. Americans didn't even break the top 15 in the discus. All the good American athletes who would be good in those events usually end up in the NFL or other high-paying sport, so we lost our talent pool.

The guy who won the gold in the discus ended up losing it because of a doping offense. The rumor is that he had some sort of synthetic bladder taped to his body and there wasn't enough of a clean sample in it to register. He only gave 25 mls when he needed to give 75 mls. His coach said that he is a very "religious" man who was nervous in giving a sample in front of other people. I dunno, they have gender specific testers, seems kinda fishy to me.

The Olympics sure have their dramas. I think of the 1972 massacre of Israelis in Munich, and the 1996 bombing in Atlanta. There was Jesse Owens winning the gold in front of Hitler. Eric Liddel's 1924 stand for Sabbath-keeping in Paris. Gold medal victories, shocking defeats, boycotts, doping scandals, bribery scandals, international politics and war, sportsmanship, pride, vanity, foolishness, pagan spirituality, courage, endurance...it's all there.

As I ponder it all, I'm glad this year's Olympics came to a peaceful conclusion.
