Options for Notetaking

Instead of writing, I would like to (quietly) type the notes I take during sermons and Wednesday night teachings so that I can search for topics easier and organize the information better. What would you recommend: an iPad or a Netbook? (or something else that I don't know about)

Just FYI...I do not own a smart phone or any other device that has an app. I rarely use my outdated cell phone, but I do use my iPod Nano and Kindle DX regularly.

Thanks for your help!

What sort of note taker are you? Will you jot down a word or two here and there? Maybe a very basic outline? Or will you be writing down whole paragraphs?

An iPad (without an external keyboard) is better for quick, short notes. A Netbook would be better suited to longer notes. Of course, if you purchase an external keyboard for your iPad, you could have the best of both worlds.

Hmmm...I think I'm between your two options: I take notes using a sentence outline noting the verses referenced.

I didn't realize that the iPad had the option of an external keyboard; that's good to know!

I'd get an iPad and then download the prg Evernote. It allows you to share notes between your computer and iPad. You can then edit them at home and add other things to them. Or if you have a good Bible prg on the iPad you can copy the verses from it and paste them in Evernote. You can also record and put photos in Evernote. I use it a lot.

Evernote works on PCs, too--Macs/iPads are way more expensive than netbooks. In my experience, typing on a netbook is more accurate than a touch screen, so if you do go with an ipad, I'd recommend the external keyboard, too.

I personally think that writing out the notes is the best way to go. For some reason, writing establishes a stronger connection with your memory than typing. If you decided to stick with this, and quantity is your concern, then maybe learn you could try shorthand note-taking?

If you are concerned about quantity and detail, and you are a fast typer, then I would prefer a Notebook.

Thank you all for your input. I went Best Buy and tried to type on the iPad2. It never occurred to me that you can't really touch type on a touch screen, but I found it very difficult (if not impossible) to do. Therefore, I decided to buy a Netbook since is was almost half the cost ($298) of the iPad2 w/an external keyboard ($568).

Evernote looks good, so I'll ask my husband to put it on my Netbook when it arrives. Estimated delivery is next Thursday, just in time for Spring Break. I'm calling it an early birthday present...March, May--they both begin with 'M'. My husband is happy because he doesn't have to do any birthday shopping this year.
