Poor man's BDAG?

There are a ton of cheap lexicons out there. Does one stand out in quality?

My little 1971 UBS Greek-English NT Dictionary is on its way out. I like it okay, except for having to shuffle the pieces of it.

Currently using the book for learning verb forms that don't want to stick, and getting a better feel for range of word meanings.
(It sits by me while I read, so I'd sure appreciate a replacement that can lay open instead of closing itself.)

You can purchase BDAG via the Logos bible software and make payments on it that are reasonable. They charge an additional admin fee of sorts, however generally speaking it makes it relatively accessible.

Yes. They changed it about 2 months ago. That is the only option now on the site. It is good for those with great credit, but for those with less than perfect credit, it can get a bit expensive when the interest is concerned. They still offer the in-house $6 service fee/interest free a month payments, but you have to call and talk to a sales rep directly.

BDAG is obviously head and shoulders above others and worth saving for a long period... I saved birthdays and preaching honoraria and so on and it was very much worth it.

Louw-nida is not really comparable in-depth of definition, but if you really need a cheaper stopgap, it works. It's by far the best I found.

Brill dictionary of Ancient Greek lies between the two in price - it's great, but not really Koine focused, so I wouldn't bother... It's better as a supplement to BDAG, in which case it's very helpful.

Don't use older Lexica instead, anything pre-papyrii is problematic.

These are all the thoughts of a preacher rather than an academic, so will gladly defer to those with specialist knowledge!

I will say that I get infinitely more use out of Lexica in Logos than as paper. Paper is just too slow and effortful, even if I use it I don't use it as much. For years I had no logos plan or library (too poor), just the SBL Greek NT, the Lexham English Bible (very literalistic, bad for reading, good for helping you with the Greek), and Louw-Nida, which I later upgraded to BDAG. That allows you to quickly tap on a word and go straight to the word in the lexicon, whether on computer or mobile. It's brilliant.
