Recommendations for Learning Web Programming

[panicbird]

I am looking for a good introductory book for HTML, CSS, XHTML, DHTML, and all the other abbreviations about which I have no knowledge. I know a little HTML (I took a college course years ago), and have some idea of what I am looking at when I look at a web page's source code, but I probably need a ground level (maybe first floor) introduction. Also, it would be nice to have something that tells about design.

Any help?

Don't overlook online tutorials, there's lots out there.

i really appreciated _web design:tools and techniques_ by Peter kentie. i have the 2nd edition, perhaps there is a 3rd now. it is good enough that i gave it as gifts last year.
