From the Preface

These are a few poems [45 pages] taken from a larger repository of writings for the purpose of showing that there are poets and writers in the kingdom of God who view the current state of the arts as functioning well below this standard:

The burden of Art, especially Poetry, is the
establishment – and defense – of human reality.

Of course, what human reality is is a hotly contested matter. As the world deteriorates morally and with regard to its vision of what is real – actual – it seems the poets and writers, the men and women of letters, have by and large abdicated the tower of vision and joined the merry throng on its descent into eternal ruin through a studied obliviousness to the things of eternity, as made known to humans by the kindness and mercy of the great God, and His Son, our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. What He has done in the being of humankind is a crucial aspect of the human condition – and human nature.

There are poets and writers in the employ of Heaven who remain true to their humanity, true to the disciplines and craft of literature, and true to the King of poets – “the Word of God” He is known as! – who spoke as never any other man or woman ever spoke, and who is the embodiment of Truth. A genuine poet ever reflects this. Any poet and writer who does not may have his fleeting day of glory among the throng of rebels, only to end in eternal ruin.

There is light in true art – may it transmit His glory through human vessels to the end of drawing souls to know Him, whom to know is eternal life. He lives in godly art.

When I saw poetry and songs and the title I immediately thought, "oh no, are we discussing that horrible Bond song by Sam Smith?"

Anyway, great poems Steve!

Dear Steve,

Were some of the poems composed recently? Is this the first time you have shared them with the PB?

You never cease to amaze me, brother. "My elder brother." You would still be my elder brother if I were five years your senior.
So, my elder brother, I want you to know that the fruitfulness you continue to demonstrate in this time of your life is, to me, a Many-Splendoured Thing, to be sure. The minuscule differences we've had in the past dwarf into insignificance when I think about your life, your heart, your faithfulness, and your example.

Note: If I'm embarrassing you, Steve, please get over it. I only have one more thing to say. ;-)

You are a very beautiful person to me, Steve. But there is One who is above all, who swoons when he thinks of you. He can't wait to be with you forever and ever. The Jerusalem Blade was surely given to the right man.

I have about ten loads of wash to fold and I need to make dinner, but I started reading this and then I read the entire thing. They are so beautiful. May God bless and use your gift. Thanks for posting.

Hello Ed, I appreciate your heart – but "swoons" is NOT the word to use for His majesty, the Son of God. I would be most glad if He simply commended me as a faithful servant. His empowering love brings this about: "Thy perfection on me; my sin on Thee."

I can't remember if I posted that booklet here before (my memory has deteriorated!). I had written them earlier, and published them "saddle-stitched" privately, but only very recently published them on Amazon for wider availability, as part of my legacy.
