Time to buy another dishwasher

Our dishwasher sprung a leak yesterday, so it looks like we may be looking to buy another one this next paycheck. I was wondering if anybody had any dishwasher recommendations. From my perspective, I'm looking for something on the low end pricewise - but not so low that you eventually say, "you get what you paid for". From my wife's perspective, maximum room inside the dishwasher to put pots, pans, etc.

Any recommendations?

Whirlpool DU1100XTP[Q] , Amana ADB1500AW[W] , Maytag MDB4651AW[W] are all rated well by Consumer reports – about $435-450.
I suggest minimal features – and have been satisfied with Kenmore, a Sears brand often made by well-known manufacturers.

Is your current dishwasher a Maytag? They have a recall on certain models because of a leak around the rinse dispenser.

See here to find out if your model and S/N range is covered. Our's was and they sent a repair kit. We just need to contact a service person to get it replace (free).

Ours is a Kenmore. I googled and found out they have a similar recall for certain Kenmore models manufactured by GE...

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dishwashers and contact General Electric for a free repair, a $150 rebate towards the purchase of a new GE dishwasher, or a $300 rebate towards the purchase of a new GE Profile or GE Monogram dishwasher.

I'm not sure what model we have, but will certainly check tonight when I get home.

Otherwise you may just need a new door seal. It should be fairly easy to remove and you will be able to tell if that is the problem right away. The seal should be flexible and soft, whereas an old, worn out seal will be hard and brittle.

Since it was leaking through the floor down into the basement, I played "Joe technician" on Saturday and found out it was leaking from underneath the dishwasher, in the middle near the motor that spins the water distributor thing-a-ma-jigger gizmo. Leaking started after the tub was filled with water, when the dishwasher started spraying the dishes, etc.
