Vehicular Quake

This morning upon starting my car, it shook pretty violently for about a minute before calming down.

It has been making a sort of whumping noise when I slow down for the past little bit.

What are my options?

Lose weight
Add antifreeze
Rotate tires
Have someone steal it and claim insurance
????

Ruben, what is the car and type of engine? (Asked my husband, a retired Ford transmissions, etc. engineer, and that's what he wanted to know.)

That's very kind, Margaret (and very characteristic of you). It is a Mercury Sable 2004 LS with a V6 engine. It's nice to have access to expert advice!

Ruben I would suggest looking at the fuel filter system. There may be some dirt in the line which is partially blocking the fuel flow and blocking the filter and then it releases which makes the engine run smoothly. Have you ever had any fuel filter changed since owning the car? Usually, a vehicle will have three fuel filters, any one of which could be causing the startup problem.
