We had a dashcammer (is that a word?) in our subdivision last summer. He would go on patrol catching drivers who failed to stop fully at stop signs, or who didn't slow down enough to suit him when passing homes where children play outdoors. He would follow those drivers home to get an address, and then post the videos on the neighborhood Facebook page in an attempt to shame them.

He always had some complaint or another about someone in the neighborhood. He especially complained when other neighbors began to question his vigilant service to us.

I've considered getting a dashcam. But I don't want to become that guy.

I carried a go-pro on my commuter bicycle for a while in case I had some kind of incident. Got a couple of good clips of people nearly clipping me ;)

I've been considering one for my car just in case an insurance issue comes up. What kind did you go with?

Next to the cheapest that they had at the big Walmart. The only difference between it and the cheapest that I could see was that it came with a 16 gig micro SD and the cheapest came with an 8 gig - seemed that a big chunk of the price difference was in the memory card. It's a Uniden DC1. Some of the more expensive ones I saw online charged extra for a mount, and memory.

I picked up a couple of Activeon CX cameras a few years ago for various endeavors. They are pretty good quality, not quite the fancy go-pro, but plenty good for recording things. I'd leave one on the boat looking back to record the elusive and never caught steelhead. I did get a nice clip of my wife landing a large bass.

With a spare micro 32 gig s-d card it can record longer than the 3 hour battery life.

I once used it as a dashcam for a 120 mile trip to Walla Walla. Not much happened worth seeing, but the scenery was pretty.

Edward, how do you edit the video? I find it takes sometimes an hour or more to process video with Windows Movie Maker.

My sales territory stretches from Daytona to St. Petersburg. I am convinced drivers around Orlando are clinically insane. I should get a dashcam just for the entertainment value. @VictorBravo there's always room for another personal injury attorney in Central Florida. I do not think I can drive more than a mile without seeing a billboard for one of them.

Dashcam is probably wise. Cameras all over might be wise (as long as those cameras are owned by private citizens and not the gov't only). Every cop ought to have cameras, both to keep him and the people he arrests safe. Stop-light cameras....well, those should all be destroyed with sledgehammers.

And...
In case an American Indian beats a drum 6 inches from my face and I smirk with too much white power, I want cameras there ready to defend me and explain that it was just a smile and not a smirk due to my awkwardness at being called a F---t and a cracker by Black Hebrew Israelites. Without all the cameras, who would believe such an insane story, and I'd be doxxed and my school closed and my life threatened due to a mere facial expression. I mean, that could not possibly happen in America, could it?

Reminds me of that Robin Williams movie where some people at birth, unbeknownst to them, were implanted with cameras that recorded their whole life.

That sounds pretty cool. Do you remember the name of that movie, now I am intrigued.

I haven't gotten into editing yet. At least at first, I'm not going to try anything fancy. I do want to figure out how to slap a copyright notice on top of the entire video if I post it.
