Brethren, I am no Ralph Nader, but this video has convinced me never to go to a Jiffy Lube again. Being in sales it's easy for me to have my oil changed at Jiffy Lube. No more. It's going to a shop even if I have to pay a few dollars more.

Contempt? It's more like good stewardship. Sure. I expect the unrighteous to act unrighteously. But I also need to manage what God gives me wisely. If I know a company is ripping me off, it is a mark of good stewardship to go someplace else.

I worked in that (auto repair) industry for over 6 years & I think that dishonest is equally distributed across the population.

Some godly honest men work in that field, just as in any other.

Even those who are not christians have an incentive to "do the right thing" just from a business perspective. Any company that depends on referals & repeat customers to stay afloat has little incentive to do anything other than look out for the customers best intrests.

I gave Jiffy Lube 187 dollars to change the oil and replace the serpentine belt last month. He showed me the belt and it did have a whole bunch of cracks. I'm confident they did the work but the video certainly reminds us 'caveat emptor'.

Mega I've alway had to do my own car work (couldn't afford someone to do it). Now I'm older, I was considering having someone do it, but will be thinkin twice about it. (But never on my RX-7, Even the mazda people are no good with a rotary)

One time on a Saturday I took my car to Jiffy Lube in Norfolk, VA. It was, I mean, jammed with customers and I had to wait a long time for my oil change.

Every one of those customers that was ahead of me got called up by the mechanic that was doing their car and who proceeded to tell them they needed some add on maintenance. By the time the guy that did my car called me over, I was knew it was my turn.

He said I needed one of those transmission flushes. I was like no thanks, I didn't come here for that. I came for an oil change and a lube.

Oh, and by the way, that all happened about 25 years ago.

LESSON LEARNED: do your own oil change and never listen to anyone (as an automechanic) that you don't trust.

One of the benefits of being in the military is the Auto Hobby Shop that is supported by the profits from the PX sales. I've learned a lot of things in the shop from the people that work there.

I honestly just don't have the time to do some work that I need but, one time, I went in for an auto repair and challenged the guy on the amount of time it would take to do a repair. He actually discounted the price. I kind of felt bad afterward because I performed a like repair and it took longer than he had estimated.

It certainly kind of helps to know what you're doing in some places.

I will say, though, that I try to find a place I can trust and that others do as well and am willing to pay folks the premium of being trustworthy.

Once, in the middle of nowhere in Texas, Sonya and I were driving to CA on my next assignment. We had our two cars we were moving there. We communicated over walkie talkies for over 3000 miles.

Anyway, I looked behind me at one point and Sonya was on the shoulder of the road completely out of control. I was terrified and was certain she was going to get into a horrible accident right before my very eyes. At over 60mph, she shot back across the freeway into the grass median and ended up in a donut coming to rest safely. God be praised she wasn't hurt at all.

I drove to the next exit 5 miles away and there was a full service gas station there. I was in the middle of nowhere and they could have gouged me big time. I got a reasonable price for tires - they didn't claim there was any damage to the rims. They put two new tires on the outer tires that had both blown and we were repaired in less than an hour and only about $100.

Honest men exist everywhere. I'll never forget that place. It's one of the things I love about certain areas of the South.
