Can anybody who has read the book recall what page the story of Washington dealing with his treasonist men is on? Concerning this particular story, there are a number of men who are guilty. He proceeds to line them up and has nooses placed on their necks. Just before the order is given. He comes behind each man and states, "Pardoned, pardoned..." going down the row, up to the last man. This last man was NOT pardoned and suffered the full penalty for his crime. All were guilty. All but one was shown mercy.
