I am somewhat perplexed by the practice of praying at the Temple.
In Mathew 6:6 Jesus commends private prayer in a closet with the door closed.
In John 4:21 Jesus speaks of a time when there would not be worship in Jerusalem
I know the later verse is probably prophetic of the Temple destruction 70AD but is my confusion at temple worship simply cultural? What was the prayer at the ninth hour? Was it private prayer in a congregation (silent) or public prayer such as we see at the Wailing Wall?
