A prayer for today: O Lord our God, we are daily distressed by the wickedness that we see around us. We mourn and lament, wishing that there was something we could do to stop the violence, to stop the hatred, to stop the corruption. So, we try with our feeble weapons. We try passing laws. We try electing honorable men and women to office. But we find the laws ineffective and the officials less honorable than we thought. Help us to learn the power of prayer. Help us trust in the power of the gospel rightly preached, empowered by your Spirit, to change hearts. And help us to remember that this is a world of sin under your judgment. How long, O Lord, until you execute the judgment we have earned? We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Psalm 58, Revelation 6:10)
