OT Bible studies

Our congregation has a men's Bible study which I lead. Next year we will be studying a book from the OT. Does anyone have any suggestions for a study guide? It does not need to be for men per se.

Please note that I am only looking for Reformed material.

I would suggest some of the shorter commentaries from a Reformed perspective. They are usually very easy to read, and short. Derek Thomas, for instance, has some commentaries in the Welwyn series. If you go slow enough through the book, they will have time to read the commentary. There are almost no study guides (as in booklets) on OT books from a Reformed perspective. The other option is Promise and Deliverance by De Graaf, which is on the whole Bible in four volumes. You could take what he says on a particular book as a Bible study. You can justify the price of the set to people by telling them that this is their Bible study guide for all the books of the Bible.

Promise and Deliverance is great but we want to focus on one book.

From December 06 to just a few weeks ago I lead a weekly college men's Bible Study in Chronicles. We didn't use a study guide or book, i just had questions for discussion through the OT.

Job is an excellent Men's Study

For the past couple of years, I have lead the Men's Group at my church through a study of the book of Job. It was a wonderful time of study and fellowship.
Our text was Derek Thomas, The Storm Breaks: Job Simply Explained, Evangelical Press, 1995...with occassional side trips into John Calvin's Sermons From Job, Baker Book House, 1952.

If a couple volume, whole bible commentary, is too big, you could do a hybrid of the above by maybe getting the new ESV Study Bible due out in october. Assuming you are ok with the ESV of course. It looks to have a volume of commentary that is at least as large as the bible text itself and based on the samples could have upwards of 10 pages of intro matter on each book with outlines etc that are very detailed. That could suffice for you to use as supplemental information that you help organize and flush out where you feel necessary.
