What do you think is the most profitable way to study a book with another person, such as a friend, accountability partner, mentor, significant other, etc. ? One way recommended to me is meeting together on a regular basis and taking turns reading all of the text out loud, discussing it as questions arise. The other way I can think of would be reading it separately and then just getting together to discuss what's been read. Any thoughts? Anyone here done either method, both, or some other way?

My fiance and I do this regularly, and we just read a chapter or two and afterwards sit down and discuss the implications of the ideas brought up. It works very well because sometimes the chapter will hit a string with my fiance that it never touched with me, and her sharing that with me helps me to see more of the full scope of the book being read.

The times I have been involved in this in the past we have always read the chapter, or designated section, separately then met to discuss it. It takes too long to read out the text out loud and thus shortens discussion time. It is easier to read, make any notes or comments you want to highlight then when you come together just discuss the points raised.
