I recently told two friends of mine about some authors they keep quoting/sometimes quote on Facebook
These authors are Philip Yancey, Robert Foster, Calvin Miller
They are all in the "contemplative prayer"/mysticism camp.
For instance, Foster, not only talks like a budhist (I read some chapters from "A celebration of discipline" and I couldn't believe my eyes), but also look like one one (he has a pony tail like the budhist monks.
I know it's easy for me to find what's wrong with them, since I browse websites like "A little leaven" or lighthousetrailsresearch
But from a pastor I expect not to post something from a guy who obviously is on the wrong path.
And, most of all, not publish them on Facebook. There are many people out there who, after such an endorsement, might think that this or that is sound doctrine.
The reply I am getting is usually "I know him well, he was here, he preached, it was fine, so nothing wrong with it".
Do you guys think I am making too much out of it?
What do you guys do, when an author you agree with endorses something that's obviously wrong?
I throw his books as far as I can.
I couldn't read something by anyone who endorsed "Purpose driven life", or "Your best life now", or "Be still dvd".
As about something as obvious as Renovare, what's there more to say?
I think Renovare / Christian mysticism / contemplative prayer is the next "big thing". Prominent authors like Foster, Yancey, Miller, Lucado are supporting it.
(With the help of Oprah - not that she is a Christian, but she has so much influence)
I can't believe how many Christians are deceived by it!
I'm sure you noticed this too.
Please tell me what you think
