I’m looking for the best works on theology proper.

Thank you in advance.

In Latin, Polanus, Walaeus, Zanchi.
In English, Turretin and Van Mastricht. Augustine's De Trinitate is good too.
Unfortunately, this is the point, perhaps more than any other, whether modern writers fall short.

Thank you. Who are the first three?

Was it @RamistThomist who had a review a while back about a good book on the subject? Perhaps it was the Trinity.

Antonius Walaeus - Delegate to the Synod of Dort and Professor of theology at Leiden. His systematic theology was published after his death. His section on the doctrine of God is good because he follows the classical doctrine of God while defending it on each point against the attacks of the Arminian Vorstius.
Amandus Polanus - Professor of theology at Basel. His Syntagma Theologiae is 4000 pages long, making it one of the longest Reformed systems written. The doctrine of God and logic are his strengths, and his application of the logical method of Peter Ramus to the ordering of the attributes of God is a unique contribution. His appropriation of Augustine and his selective use of precise scholastic distinctions are also interesting.
Zanchi was a reformer from Italy, later a professor in Heidelberg. His De natura Dei is the longest and most comprehensive work from the Reformation that focuses just on the doctrine of God.

Wonderful, thank you. But only in Latin unfortunately.

While not Reformed, the first volume of Thomas Oden's Systematic Theology is a worthy resource.

Is Barrett’s Trinity better to start with than his book on the attributes of God?

You can get Barret's book for only 10 CAD (kindle version so you can get it immediately) on Amazon!

Shipping would be more than the book itself. And then add more due to currency conversion. Thanks though.

You Americans can get theology books for pennies and have them shipped for free!
Canadian book seller that I've used plenty of times, and they even carry that book! (I'll let you ponder the pricing):
