Paul exactly did [i:b6ad69ed46]not[/i:b6ad69ed46] say that! No one can get away from God's presence. This can't mean that he just "accompanies" us everywhere, nor that he exists in presence every so many spaces or "between" everything, nor that he "hovers" above our reality. He [i:b6ad69ed46]is[/i:b6ad69ed46] the environment. "In him we live, move, and have our being."
This truth can in no wise be legitimately construed to mean that it is okay to worship the stuff of creation as if it were God!
Here's a shallow illustration (shallow because our experience is so far from godlike). A home can be a tangible expression of the person who lives there. It can powerfully express his/her personality. In fact, you could go from room to room in it and never truly feel as if you got away from the owner. Its [i:b6ad69ed46]like[/i:b6ad69ed46] they were present in every constructive and decorative detail. But if you addressed the couch, or the paint, or the ceiling joist as if [i:b6ad69ed46]it[/i:b6ad69ed46] were your friend, you'd be a fool.
God is "present" most powerfully in his people, and especially in his corporately gathered people--gathered for his worship. He tells us he wants to eat with us. We share a common meal--the Lord's Supper. He tells us it is an expression of the bond we share in him. We are what we eat. As Calvin put it: bread in the mouth, Christ in the heart.
