Blasphemy to start the morning off

I don't know what's worse - that someone wrote this drivel or that there is a market for it.

Yeah it is legal. It is all free under freedom of speech.

I'm not sure that starting one's morning off with blasphemy is a good use of time.

I am not sure blasphemy is a good use of time morning, noon, or night.

I thought publishing something like this was illegal.

Why would you think that?

That's just my prejudice of the relationship between the state of America and the Christian church. Is Bible-burning festivals legal, then?

And both of these examples are tame compared to some of the "artwork" that has been done in America to mock God.

This is sadly very true. I recall a famous one where the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe submerged a crucifix in container of urine and took a picture and called it art. Of course Mapplethorpe died of AIDS, which just shows how true Galatians 6:7 is.

Not as bad as the p*rn exhibit that came to my hometown when I was a kid. All the paintings and photos included a supposed picture of Jesus involved in the filth.

If I remember correctly though, Robert was depicted what he felt Christians were doing to Christ on a daily basis. It was not a "this is what I feel about Christ" thing.

As mentioned above, not sure what's worse, someone writing it, that people are buying it, or that the review are raving about it. Sad, sad world. But yet, 85% of north americans are christians

as one reviewer said "May God have mercy on our souls"

Wait...what?! Sickening.

Ha ha. That's funny you say that. Sometimes I get confused as to whether I already shared something with my FB or my PB friends, and of course, many of those overlap. I also often forget if you and I discussed something in a forum, on a FB post, or in a PM. It's a good thing we don't text each other too!

So wrong on so many levels. First of all, the photographer in question isn't Robert Mapplethorpe, it is Andres Serrano. Mapplethorpe was gay but I'm not sure he died of AIDS. Serrano is not gay. While "P*** Christ" is provocative, it is not meant to be anti-Christian. Other than the image of Christ, the image is reverential in tone if you don't know the crucifix is in urine. Serrano hasn't said exactly what it means, but I have heard that it is intended to show the cheapening and commercialization of images of Christ in our culture. Alternatively, I have heard that it represents the filth into which Christ descended while on the cross, specifically the photographer's.

I'm not defending Serrano or his photos, but if you're going to criticize art at least be correct on the author, his sexual proclivities, and the purpose behind his art.

You are correct that it was Serrano and not Mapplethorpe. My mistake, those two often get mixed up because of their involvement in the NEA scandal of the 80's and 90's. As for your other assertions, Mapplethorpe did die of AIDS and Serrano most certainly is gay. Further, you are the one who is ignorant if you think this type of artwork is not meant to be anti-Christian. People like Serrano and Mapplethorpe may claim a vague spirituality, but deep down they hate everything that you and I believe in.

I also read that review and marked it helpful without noticing the reviewer's name!
