OK, the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game is on tonight. We've had a college pick-em thread before for bowl games, but let's get this down to just one game.

Who wins tonight? Auburn or Oregon.

No final scores needed, just pick the winner.

I'll start us off: even though I don't particularly care for either of Auburn's two star players (Newton and Fairley), I'm going with the Tigers in this one.

Geaux--um, I mean Go Tigers!

*As a Dawg fan it takes a game of very particular circumstances for me to root for Auburn. A national championship game against some hockey team from the west coast fits these circumstances perfectly.

I predict a clumsy first half and a wild second half with Auburn pulling away late. Cam Newton goes nuts and accounts for at least 4 touchdowns.

Auburn 44 - Oregon 35

I was on my way to post this very same thing! I say Ducks all the way. And I'm gonna throw out the final as 21-17. GO DUCKS!!! :cheers2:

I'm sorry, but Oregon's uniforms look like a large box of highlighters exploded in their luggage.

And that's Kathleen's contribution to the thread...

...and Auburn only scored 14 offensive points...

Also this is the first time I've really watched Cam Newton and I am not very impressed.

Obviously, as you would know that Auburn starts out slow and then takes over the game in the second half. Defensive adjusts and shuts you down. Offensive just keeps coming and pours on the points in the second half. Georgia led them 21-7 early. I believe Alabama was up 24-0 in the first half. Both lost. To only put up 11 (from such a potent offensive) doesn't look good.

The thing that bothers me about Newton is he didn't miss anything against Georgia. He threw perfect passes that were virtually impossible to defend. The only incompletions were dropped passes by his receivers. Yet, it this game, he has already missed two easy touchdown passes.

The 37 days off hurts a team that relies on a precision offense much more than a more straight-forward offense that Auburn runs. The whole game has been pretty sloppy.

So true.

Defenses will destroy him in the NFL, that is for sure.

You're probably right. Cam has likely been the biggest, fastest, strongest kid on the field for as long as he's been playing football. All that changes the first time you step on the field in the NFL.

I agree with you there. A month off between games is absolutely ludicrous. But that's the NCAA for you. Let's face facts: in a perfect world Newton wouldn't even be playing and Fairley would be arrested for mugging QBs. But it is what it is.

He won't be able to run around/past OLB's in the NFL. That is what really stops guys like Newton in the pro's.

Wow, that was a shocking statistic -- Oregon has not scored since about the 11 minute mark of the second quarter. Auburn's defense has played better that it's played most of the season. But Oregon's defense is playing extremely well and keeping them in the game. The difference at this point is Oregon getting inside the 10 yard line in the 3rd quarter and trying to run the ball four straight times for no points...

Wow, how fortunes change! Cam Newton fumbles the ball (caused by a great defensive play) and Nick Fairley commits a critical offside penalty inside the 5 yard line. We are tied!
