Thomas Manton's commentary on James should be worth reading, primarily for doctrine. If you are into technical issues, you will want to read a more recent, critical commentary.

Go try to find Henry Krabbendam's lengthy treatment. Manton is outstanding, too, of course. Unlike some Puritans, he actually sticks to the text in his exposition. There's also Dan Doriani and Dan McCartney.

Dr Krabbendam filled the pulpit at our OP church here in Lake Worth FL a few times over the years before the pandemic. I was very impressed with his preaching. There are web resources of his sermons, and discourses on The Book Of James in particular.

Peter H. Davids' commentary on James is also highly recommended. I particularly like the fact that he views James as the Lord's half brother, and truly the author of the epistle. Also William Varner has a commentary that highlights James as the true leader of the Jerusalem church evidenced by Peter and Paul both appearing to be under his authority in the NT documents. He also affirms James as the author.
