Gas pains

Well before gas reached that level the world would experience an economic collapse that would make the great depression look mild in comparison. It would also lead to war.

Yeah, worldwide economy would crumble if that happened.

Hopefully we'll return to some sort of psuedo-rural society to reduce gas consumption and depend on animal transportation again. I would so love to ride a horse around. With gas consumption reduced, prices would plummet back down so as to allow for us to still transport goods long distances cheaply and quickly.

We should all start saving up to buy in for New Geneva, my presently fictional Christian community. :p

I liked the link on "the Dean of Oil Analysis"

There's never a need to fear as a believer but being aware of likely future events is being like the wise ant. This was the first analyst that gave dates and amounts that I found helpful and conceivable. When people say "gas is going to hit $7/gallon" that's nothing I don't already believe. I am looking for specific dates as well.

From the title I did wonder what the thread was about, I am relieved that it is not medical in nature.

The threat of $10 per gallon gasoline could drive ME into bankruptcy. I'm a salesperson who has to pay for his own gas and vehicle maintenance. Unless my company subsidized my fuel costs I wouldn't be able to continue in my job. I'd have to find something else to do and probably earn far less money.

I live 35 miles from work, I would definitely have to move.

Before gasoline would hit $10 a gallon I would suspect the SEC would suspend futures trading in the United States. In other words: government intervention. At $10 a gallon usage would plummet and so would OPEC profits. As has been mentioned, foreign oil would be supplemented or replaced by aggressive drilling in our own hemisphere. Alternative fuels are still so far off from widespread reality that they are no more than a promise. Hybrid technology would probably be mandated by government. Either that, or a minimum of 60-70-80 miles per gallon for gas-only powered cars. Life as we know would certainly change.
