Puritan Board Freshman
After I became reformed stopped attending (never a member) my Arminian, Dispensational, SB church and as expected, I got a few letters from them. After a while though, I got really tired of being guilt tripped into "reconnecting" with the church and invited by means of all sorts of typical evangelical phraseology. Another member there told me they would take me off "the list." So today I get another letter from the youth pastors, and I got a little irritated because it says "I want to thank you for your incredible support over the last two years" and I haven't even BEEN there for more than a year! Then it goes through the typical seeker sensitive type of stuff about how their going to be doing things differently which, in their minds, will get better results. I also love the part where it says the new building "will help create a Sunday morning experience that is second to none for you."

What's worse is that these people seem to know nothing about me even though he and I would discuss theology to no end on the mission (*cough* doorknocking *cough*) trip, plus the fact I was the only one who could ever answer any questions in the Apologetics class on Sunday night; and considering I challenged him about using rock music for the youth services, to which he replied "Yeah, but the words are Christian" I'm wondering if they really care at all.

They signed it "Not Ashamed." Well, they should be, considering this church makes Saddleback Community Church look like 16th century Geneva.

I was wondering though, is it worth my time to write back and get them to take me off the list *again*?

I feel like I should, I'm just afraid it'll be an angry, scathing rant about their grossly sinful practices (like putting up a Christmas tree several stories high in the sanctuary, pictures of Christ, turning worship into a rock concert, sexual innuendo in skits designed to make the congregation laugh, etc) but I don't want to seem combative, either.

Suggestions? :candle:

Here's my 2 cents:
Just right them back a simple letter stating that you have come to different theological convicitons which prevent you from attending that church any longer. And request to be taken off the list. If some one writes back and wishes to know what your objections are then you could get into detail politely. But since you were not a member you really had no obligations there.

Whhhhell. I agree with Puritansailor. If you have become a formal member of another church, you may want to mention that in your letter. :handshake:

My family and I are experiencing the *complete* opposite. We raised questions (and made formal complaints :judge: ) about the Session of the church we'd been attending for 10 years, and have been 'chased out of town': receiving letters *begging/commanding* us to remove our membership. (Without, of course, so much as a reply to our numerous requests to discuss the issues at hand) The issues have led to about 25 families leaving the (previously-)300-member church in the last 10 months. :banghead: Get a clue, folks.

Heh...that's one thing about Baptists...

They always seem to have more Baptists than people. It seems like you can't get off their roles until you're dead.

...and then send them a letter.

But they do have better pot luck lunches than the PCA'ers, et al.

And that says a lot. J/K

:bs2:

When I went to college, my room mate and I would always visit the church that had a pot luck lunch that Sunday. We'd call ahead.

Forgive me. :pray2:
